Trekking
With years of trekking experience and having travelled all over
the region Marco Polo India's staff deliver well organised and precisely
executed treks in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Zanskar, and Garhwal.
Angdu and Sampel oversee the finer details, sometimes accompanying
groups and make sure that all goes strictly according to plan.
Himachal Pradesh
Himachal offers the trekking enthusiast a number of trekking options
in different parts of the state. Each district within Himachal has
its own trails and paths, each different from the other. The landscape
and terrain also varies radically from lush vegetation to high altitude
desert regions. Choose from any of our list of treks or ask us to
plan one just for you according to your requirements. All treks
are accompanied by experienced mountain guides, expert cooks, complete
camp staff and equipment, and ponies or porters depending on the
trail. Manali located in the centre of the state affords excellent
accessibility to all the regions within the state and also the northern
hi-attitude terrain of Ladakh and Zanskar.
Short Treks from Manali:
The Beas Kund Trek : 3 Days
Starting from the old village of Manali, this trail goes past old
villages on a ridge above the River Beas to Solang Valley from where
it climbs steadily towards the glaciated Beas Kund one of the river's
origins. Superb views of mountain peaks can be had from here whilst
you camp in luxuriant meadows.
The Bhrighu Lake Trek : 3 Days*
Another revered lake high above Manali hidden behind a thickly forested
hillside, the Bhrighu Lake can be approached from two sides. From
the village of Vashsisht from where it involves a steep climb and
the other from the Gulaba meadows 16 Kms north of Manali off the
Manali- Leh Highway. A beautiful oval lake from where you get extensive
views of the Lahaul, Spiti and Pir Panjal mountain peaks.
The Base of Deo Tibba Peak Trek : 5 Days*
A trek that takes you through a couple of ancient villages to above
the tree line into lavish meadows nurturing a profusion of wild
flowers and herbs. The camp below the Deo Tibba (Throne of Gods)
peak gives you excellent views of snow clad mountains and also a
day's walk to a tiny glaciated lake above the camp.
The Malana Trek : 5 Days*
A trek that goes through verdant meadows to the Chanderkhani pass
and descends into the legendary village of Malana inhabited by a
race who trace their roots to the lost army of Alexander the Great.
Having their own laws and form of government, they prohibit leather
within the village and the touching of any building by outsiders.
Till recently quite isolated it is now being exposed to more and
more modern day attitudes and lifestyles.
